Journey 2020 - present
Journey began during a period of reflection, at a time when I felt uncertain about many things and lacking in direction. These feelings were exaggerated during the pandemic and like many others, I became reliant on daily exercise to maintain any sense of wellbeing. I found that as I walked the same paths and fields every day, there was no monotony. I continued to photograph as I always had but my images started to change. I found myself seeing the same waters, trees and fields in different ways and challenging myself to find ways of expressing these sometimes slight, sometimes enormous changes of light, colour, weather, mood or point of view in my images. My work gradually became more abstract emphasizing colour, pattern, movement and atmosphere.
A collection of my own small, daily journeys has become become a whole journey of rediscovering the importance and pleasure for all of us in appreciating our natural surroundings.
I have discovered that being in the same places and doing the same things, does not have to mean that you are standing still.
This work has developed, with the meeting of the wonderful poet Maddi Crease, into a beautiful collaboration: Roots
